Voicebox, a popular private-suite karaoke concept in its native Portland, was poised to open in its second market, Denver, in 2016. Voicebox enlisted Sprocket to promote its opening and unique offering, helping connect its community through song.

Challenge

The Voicebox concept of private karaoke suites (as opposed to an open room with a stage) is unique to the United States, but the Sprocket team had to help Voicebox break through the ‘karaoke bar’ stereotype. Luckily, the Voicebox space—clean lines, good drinks and good food—is a departure from the usual dingy American karaoke bar.

Solution

In addition to offering an incredible entertainment experience, Voicebox’s proprietary technology makes choosing songs seamless; songs can be selected right from a user’s phone. Sprocket leveraged that differentiator to Denver’s tech media, as well as entertainment and food media, to tout the uniqueness of the Voicebox experience. Sprocket knew all the agency had to do was bring in media, influencers and community members into the space, and Voicebox would sell itself.

The social media strategy supported that media outreach effort, fielding inquiries from curious Denverites about the concept, pricing, opening timeline and more.

Results

Voicebox was featured in every relevant local publication, including 5280 Magazine, the Denver Post, the Denver Business Journal, Westword, and on various blogs. The concept was also featured in a China Global Television Network segment about Asian-style karaoke bars. Similarly, Sprocket built a social framework for the company to utilize as it grows nationwide.
