Is 2018 the Year of the Woman? As a woman-owned company, we’d say HELL YES (though 2017 was a strong contender, too.) Women are making their voices heard this year.
To celebrate that, we’re starting a blog post series called Women-Owned Wednesday, in which we call out one women-owned company per month that’s inspires TF out of us.
For our first edition, we’re giving a shoutout to Ellevest, the investment company aimed at helping women better prepare for their future.
You can read their full story HERE, but these are the basics: Co-founder and CEO Sallie Krawcheck had worked in finance for decades, leading Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney. One day realized that the entire industry was marketed by men and toward men. Considering the differences in data points for women versus men—longer life span, for one—Sallie and her team dove into designing an investment platform for women, and asked women to weigh in on the process. They conducted 200 hours of interviews with a women of various age and demographic backgrounds.
Ultimately, their product allows users to choose several goals (saving for a home, saving for retirement, or building an emergency fund, to name a few), input your demographic and job information such as income, and save accordingly. It’s simple and made with women in mind — there’s nothing that warms our hearts more than that!
